Tab Nudge

Re-engage distracted visitors by animating the browser tab when they switch away.

Tab Nudge catches the attention of visitors who have switched to another tab. The browser tab title animates with your messages and emoji, encouraging them to return.

This widget only activates when visitors leave your tab. It won't affect their experience while actively browsing your site.

How It Works

  1. Visitor switches to a different browser tab
  2. Your page title starts cycling through custom messages
  3. An emoji animates alongside the text
  4. When they return, the original title is restored

Example Messages

Create compelling messages that encourage visitors to return:

Don't forget your discount!
Your cart is waiting...
Come back! 20% off expires soon
Miss us already?
One click away from awesome

Keep messages under 50 characters. Longer text gets truncated in most browser tabs.

Animation Speed Guidelines

ValueEffect
1000Fast — messages change every 1s
1500Normal — balanced timing
2000Slow — easier to read
3000+Very slow — each message lingers

Page Targeting

Control which pages use tab nudge.

OptionDescription
Target PagesOnly activate on these pages (empty = all)
Exclude PagesNever activate on these pages

Wildcard Patterns

/pricing/* → matches /pricing/pro, /pricing/enterprise
*/checkout        → matches /en/checkout, /fr/checkout
/about → matches exactly /about

Common use cases:

  • Target: /pricing, /cart/*, /product/*
  • Exclude: /blog/*, /docs/*, /about

Best Practices

  1. Use urgency — Messages like "Offer expires soon!" create FOMO
  2. Keep it playful — Emojis add personality without being pushy
  3. Don't overdo it — 3-5 messages is enough variety
  4. Match your brand — Use language consistent with your site
  5. Target high-value pages — Focus on pricing, cart, and product pages

Browser Support

Tab Nudge works in all modern browsers:

Some browsers may limit title changes in background tabs for performance. The widget handles this gracefully.
